Home of New Zealand's rarest Gecko - Gecko Hopodactylus stevensii "Coromandel."
Waitati Gardens until 6 years ago was a rock covered cow pasture. Now the Coromandel quartz rocks have been built into walls, rockeries and stockpiled for further garden construction.
Waikato Times New Garden of the week; The "Opening" featured in Commercial Horticulture (May 1998). A huge range of rare and unusual varieties from natives to rockery treasures, shrubs to perennials, bulbs and trees; there is always a treat to discover. Wheelchair accessible tracks enable visitors to wander amongst Graeme's native areas and enjoy the colour and perfumes of his Vireya Rhodo collection.
If you are a florist/floral artist you will discover many special plants grown for wedding bouquets or funeral tributes. It is also a picking garden of special material for students in floristry classes at Waikato Polytechnic where Kate is a tutor. Several brides have chosen to have their wedding photographs taken in the garden. "This wonderful garden has inspired us in the planning of our new garden." Swiss visitors. "A heavenly spot between earth and sky, a magical garden full of treasures." NZ visitors. |
