Ngaere Gardens
Taranaki's Oldest Established Garden |
|
10 acres of easy walking woodland gardens, situated on the main Highway 5K South of Stratford. These gardens are reputed to be Taranaki's oldest, dating back to the mid 1880s. |
 |
There are very large trees dating back to the turn of the century - Chestnuts, Linden, Rimu, Totaras, Kahikateas to name a few.
An old stone fountain, paddling pool with a fountain centre piece and an arched bridge all dating back to the early 1920s still grace the gardens today as do two large lakes, which were dug by hand by the original owner. |
|
The large spacious lawns framed by trees make this a tranquil stopover for the weary traveller to take a break or bring a picnic lunch and spend the day. A playground for the children is available.
Ample parking for coaches and campervans.
Lunches available by prior arrangement in summer months. | |
