The house, of concrete block faced to resemble stone, was built by three sisters in 1904 and used as a Girls Finishing School until it was sold in 1920. When the present owners purchased it in 1984 it was neglected and used as a Rooming House. Following extensive renovation it is now a comfortable and elegant home.

The garden features a number of mature trees, the most notable of which is a native Puriri that is older than the house. A golden macrocarpa stands sentinel at the gate and the entrance is under a pergola festooned with wisteria.

From the house an archway hung with baskets of vibrant colour leads onto the lawn. This has as its centrepiece a large fountain which has been in place for over 70 years.

The lawn is surrounded by colourful herbaceous borders contrasting with the textures of trees, shrubs and grasses including camellias, prunus and pittosporums. With the creeper covered gazebo and the trickle of water into the woodland pool there is a romantic and restful atmosphere which provides an ideal setting for weddings and wedding photographs.
